Internet in Central African Republic

In  the Central African Republic, the Societe centrafricaine de telecommunications (SOCATEL) controls all telecommunications.  Its Internet service is provided via a link to Paris but it is not capable of supporting the growing user base that is demanding access service.  Thus, it has increased the bandwidth of its service and opened up the field of leased line services to companies like Compuserve.  Phone line quality is fairly good here but it is almost impossible to get a new line.  SOCATEL's ISP costs 15,000 francs CFA to set up with a monthly fee of 10,000 francs CFA and an time fee of 60 francs CFA per minute.  Internet access here is extremely costly.
